This cold wave was caused by frigid air dropping down from the north at around minus 30 degrees Celsius.
However, it is said that temperatures will gradually rise starting from tomorrow morning (Dec. 27).
There is also a forecast for some snow in the central region.

A thick layer of white snow has piled up on the frozen river.
In Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, where the first cold wave warning of this winter was issued, the morning temperature today (Dec. 26) dropped to around minus 15 degrees.

The cold wave will continue until tomorrow morning, which is the weekend.
Tomorrow morning, temperatures will be as cold as today, with Seoul at minus 11 degrees and Chuncheon at minus 13 degrees.
A cold wave advisory is currently in effect for Seoul and the surrounding metropolitan area, as well as parts of Gangwon, Chungbuk, and Gyeongbuk provinces.
The arrival of this strong cold wave is due to the frigid air from the north, which is around minus 30 degrees, pushing down over the Korean Peninsula.
The intensity of the cold air is expected to weaken gradually, and temperatures are forecasted to return to the average for this time of year by tomorrow afternoon.
On Sunday (Dec. 28), warm westerly winds will blow, causing temperatures to rise significantly.
In Seoul, the morning temperature is expected to rise by more than 10 degrees compared to the previous day, and the daytime temperature will be 6 degrees, which is more than 3 degrees higher than the average.
During the weekend, around 1 cm of snow is forecasted, mainly in the central region, including the metropolitan area.

The Korea Meteorological Administration advised that roads may be slippery in areas where snow or rain falls, urging caution for traffic safety.

이번 겨울 첫 한파 경보가 발령된 경기도 가평에서는 오늘(12월 26일) 아침 기온이 영하 15도 내외로 떨어졌습니다.

한파는 주말인 내일 아침까지 계속될 것입니다.
내일 아침, 서울이 영하 11도, 춘천이 영하 13도로 오늘만큼 춥겠습니다.
현재 서울과 주변 수도권, 그리고 강원, 충북, 경북 일부 지역에 한파주의보가 발효 중입니다.
이 강한 한파의 도래는 북쪽에서 불어오는 영하 30도 정도의 차가운 공기가 한반도를 밀어내고 있기 때문입니다.
찬 공기의 강도는 점차 약해질 것으로 예상되며, 내일 오후까지는 이맘때 기온이 평년 수준으로 회복될 것으로 예상됩니다.
일요일(12월 28일)에는 따뜻한 서풍이 불어 기온이 크게 상승할 것입니다.
서울의 아침 기온은 전날보다 10도 이상 상승할 것으로 예상되며, 낮 기온은 6도로 평년보다 3도 이상 높겠습니다.
주말 동안 수도권을 포함한 중부 지역을 중심으로 약 1cm의 눈이 내릴 것으로 예상됩니다.

기상청은 눈이나 비가 내리는 지역에서는 도로가 미끄러울 수 있다며 교통 안전에 주의를 당부했습니다.
