The raw material supply crisis is already impacting industries. LG Chem decided to halt operations at its Yeosu No. 2 plant (annual ethylene production capacity: 800,000 tons), and Yeochun NCC began adjusting production by halting part of its olefin conversion process.

In response, the government is considering restricting naphtha exports. Yang Gi-wook, head of the Industrial Resources Security Office at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources, stated during a daily briefing at the Government Complex Sejong on the 24th, “Regarding naphtha, we will receive reports on production and imports from refiners. Moving forward, we may implement measures such as prohibiting hoarding and restricting exports.”

원자재 공급 위기는 이미 여러 산업에 영향을 미치고 있다. LG화학은 여수 2공장(연간 에틸렌 생산 능력: 80만 톤)의 가동을 중단했고, 여천NCC는 올레핀 전환 공정 일부를 중단하는 등 생산량 조정에 나섰다.

이에 대응해 정부는 나프타 수출 제한을 검토하고 있다. 양기욱 산업자원안전실장은 24일 세종정부청사에서 열린 정례브리핑에서 “나프타와 관련해 정유업체들로부터 생산 및 수입 현황에 대한 보고를 받을 예정”이라며 “향후 사재기 금지 및 수출 제한 등의 조치를 시행할 수 있다”고 밝혔다.
